First lession, if you don't catch attention quickly or make your entry process too complicated, players will go away.
Some will say that the first 10 (20, 30, ...?) seconds are the most important. If players are confused right from the start chances are that you already lost them.
So I'd like to know, how difficult was it to understand how to get started? I'm not talking about how every mechanics are working but from the time you saw the front page to the time you were ready to get started playing the game, how long did it took?
If everything went fine from you then great but if not, I'd like you to tell me what exactly was a problem and how you think it should be fixed.
Thanks for your feedback.
Well, I still don't understand the game, and it's been 10 minutes, and I'd already would have left if I was anyone else, but the games from you are amazing, so it's worth the frustration. I can click on games, and I can move, but when I move once, I am not able to move again after I double click, even after I reach my destination. Also, I am not able to find out how much ammo or health my blimp has, which is also confusing. The graphics and everything ARE incredibly eyecatching, however, so great job with that!
Just to make sure about the problem you have to move more than once, are you using Firefox 3.5?
Did you check the quick start tutorial? Did you see the quick start tutorial button?
* Note that I'm not judging anything here, these are honest questions. If the quick start tutorial is not helpful or not visible enough this might be something I need to change.
i joined a pirate hunt 0/1 and i right click on one land then i selected "take" and now i see the land in my inventory but i cant see anymore my blimp and i cant upgrade it , i just see that land...
lol, some command restriction I forgot to put back to normal. I'll fix that and remove the land from your inventory.
are those account we created will remains after the beta end ?
I fixed the "take" command so you won't be able to use it anymore. I'll remove the context menus later.
Accounts will be deleted from time to time during beta so you'll have to recreate them.
At the end of beta once everything is ready to go live, I'll just reset the progress on the accounts. So you'll keep your username but all stats will go back to 0 as until everything is balanced, it wouldn't make much sense to leave accounts that used almost unlimited funds and unbalanced stats.
mrnotcrazy It was easy to get controls, in game matches were easy to understand i got confused about upgrading my blimp ,since items are brought from atlus store at first i though i would need atlus coins to get anything. Other than that it seemed easy to understand
is it only me or the game is too slow ? if our blimp is suppose to be on that speed when we start, and i know we can upgrade our speed later but , i suggest we resize the map to the current speed we start in the game, i use like 2 -3 min each time i need to go get bullet and return to the closest enemy, because the map is too huge, what u think
The controls were easy to get hold of,although i haven't yet memorized all the buttons,i tend to just click on things.I must admit there are alot of button controls.
Fairly quickly. The game made me feel... out there in space, with all the grabbing and stuff. And it seems a bit too crowded in the menu,
Fairly Simple. I was scared at first by the 9 buttons to move, but then realized its like an old arcade joystick. Still I prefer double clicks while hitting F to fire :D
I caught in within 10 seconds I'd say.
Front page is pretty easy to figure out, and joining games is pretty straight foward, so no problems on that side. As for understanding how to play, I caught on fairly easily during the first game and then the quickstart tutorial helped clear out any last doubts about controls, reloading and all.
The controls did take some getting used to, but now the 8 directional letters feel almost natural to use. In fact, I quite like controlling with the letters and using the mouse to move about on the mini map :)
If I might suggest, the quick start tutorial could pop up during your first game, to make sure you don't get stuck wondering how to reload if you jumped head first in a game.
Well, part of it, the part related to the game itself, skipping the logging in part. It's fairly simple to understand and not very long to go through at the start of a game, so if you add a 'skip' button it shouldn't be too troublesome to those who really don't want to read it, or those who checked it out before creating an account.
It could also serve as a refresher.
The quick start tutorial helped but I have run into a few glitches.
First glitch, I click on an ammo pile or repair tools and about 50% of the time the cargo loads and the other 50% my blimp just sits there. Land didn't make sense in the context menu as it kept telling me I couldn't land. Perhaps a legend as part of the tutorial or a help file that explains the context options?
Second glitch. Twice I had to close the game as my blimp would not move anywhere no matter where I clicked. i am running the latest Firefox 3.5.4
What does hide do besides hide the ammo/repair tools or another ship?
I know we start at the airman class which starts with low accuracy but it seemed I needed to travel too far to reload cannon balls with respect to the time allowed for the game. The maximum I seem to be able to take out is maybe 3 or 4 pirate airships and one cannon tower. With an initial capacity of only 10 cannon balls and an initial accuracy of 50% that means only 5 cannonballs will hit an enemy before reload if they all hit. It takes almost that many to down a pirate airship so I find all my time reloading rather than hunting and fighting.
About the context menu, those will be removed. They are coming from Golemizer since it's using the same code as base. So don't bother with them as they're not relevant.
I'll look at the cannon balls capacity. 10 is really not a lot.
im the sort of person who rushes in without reading rules, but with my advanced game knowedge i understand quickly, but i found moving was very confusing i had to quit and read tutorial, but i wanted me to sign up again so i spent more time figuring out what to do, then i read it and tryed another game, i did get the rules but it would be much simpilar with just 1 click moves, and also speeding thing up would help, so cannon reload, and movement (also if your not like me without reading rules just now theres alot of people like me)
To make moving a single click I'd have to remove the possibility to drag the ground to move around. I'll play around with this and see if there's a way to still include one click move without having to remove the dragging.
Thing like cannon reload and movement are still things that need to be balanced. These are currently just testing values. These can also be improved by boosters but most boosters are still not added so that will come. Different blimps have different stats but right now there's only 2 blimps so it's kinda hard to see the difference.
As for people not reading the rules well, I can't expect everyone checking out the game to become regular players. Based on your feedback, the single thing you had difficulties with is double-click instead of single-click so that's nothing big to fix.
Nvm, I found a way to add single-click movement while still having the drag ground function.
So I guess it will make the game more intuitive.
I am not sure whether I'm using firefox 3.5. In any case, it's whatever verion of firefox I have or IE explorer, and I hate IE explorer. The quickstart tutorial is easy enough to understand. I was talking to a few people on golemizer about the game and it's probably just my computer acting funny in not letting me move. I was moving in the multiplayer games on other people's screens, but not on my own screen.
move the ads to less obtrusive places i had one half covering the getting started tutorial button and there right in the middle of the screen
What's your screen resolution? Also, what browser (and version) are you using?
There's only 1 ad so I'm wondering what you saw in the middle of the screen. The ad is set to appear at the bottom of screen so that's why I'm asking for your screen resolution. On really small resolutions it's possible it might be problematic but then unless you're in widescreen the game interface must be taking pretty much all of the space available?
I changed the way the ad is shown. It should fix the problem for people with smaller screen resolution but it do have the side-effect of getting the ad closer to the interface for those with higher screen resolution (while it was at the bottom of the screen before).
