GeneralUpdate 2 report, Part 1: Conquer and Pirate

  • Okay, here is my report.

    First, I tested on Chrome, version 3.0.195.33.

    In a Conquer type of game:

    * When taking over a zone after the first one, they all display "Zone 2 (or 3 or 4): Ankashra took control of zone 1"

    * I find myself wondering if we can loose control of a zone to pirates. I suppose other players can take over zones you already conquered, but I have not played multi player to see that yet. Right now, in solo mode, it is very easy to avoid pirates and conquer everything. Perhaps more pirates, or have them restricted to the island on which their flag is?

    * It is possible to take control of zones you already own, over and over again. At 3pts each time, it's boring but easy to get 200pts by flying over the zone 1 flag for 10 minutes. (...who, me? nope, didn't do that... ¬.¬; )

    * Killing pirates in a Conquer game doesn't give points, so in solo games, you have nothing to do fast. Also, no way to reload since there are no cannon balls, so you just wait out the last minutes. If more pirates are added, or they can conquer back zones you control, cannonballs should be added. Killing pirates should not become the focus of the game, so 2pts each? Or, if you make it impossible to retake control of zones you own, give 5pts for zone take over, and 3 for pirates killing?

    In a Pirate type of game:

    * You get no points from killing cannon towers, and they are easy to avoid, so they have not very much impact on the game. I have a blimp with optimal cannon range of 17, and it was easy to destroy a tower without taking one hit. Perhaps give a bigger range to towers, with lower damage, and 10points when destroyed?

    * 20pts for each pirates killed is a bit much, easy to get over 150 per game. I would suggest dropping it to 12 or 15.

  • Wel the first thing is that there won't be any single player game at release. Right now I created them to allow players to test as it's hard to meet someone online with the few testers.

    Pirates in conquer game are just there to annoy. They won't take control of zone but can shoot you.

    The way conquer works is that you fly over a zone, take control of it and you keep control until someone steals it from you. So you can fly away. You cannot take control of the same zone more than once. To use Golemizer's terms, flags are NPCs and they have a variable stocking the current owner. On each AI run, they award points to the owner.

    Good call on cannon balls in conquer maps. I'll add some.

    Towers are again mostly there to annoy. I agree it's kinda hard to get the right feeling when you're alone in the map. In a "real" game, focus won't be on towers. However, you might want to avoid them so you don't lose that 20 points of hull that another player might use against you to shoot you down.

    Thanks for your feedback. Definitely testing multiplayer will be required as it will completely change how games are played.

  • Yeah, just realized I didn't have to do anything to get points in a conquer map :P

    And yeah, testing alone, there are not many possibilities of gameplay and strategies.
